Welcome to Westminster

…where we are endeavoring to deepen our relationships with God and one another, and to share the love of Jesus Christ with every person.

Our Dynamic Pastor
is anything but ordinary!

As a single mom of a preschooler who has been in ministry for two decades, Pastor Meg’s depth of faith, diversity of personal experience, and dynamic preaching style combine for meaningful sermons that are relevant to daily living at every stage of life.

Fun and Fellowship
on our beautiful campus!

A campfire ring, the community garden, numerous fruit trees, a playground, and lots of green space are all part of the charm of the Westminster campus! Church events, as well as local children and dog-walkers, make good use of this beautiful space.

Meaningful Worship
without being rigid!

We strive for worship that both challenges and comforts, that includes a variety of music styles, that is sacred without taking ourselves too seriously. We welcome all of God’s people, always providing a space for questions and doubts, as well as differences of belief and opinion.

A Church for All Ages
We’re a family of faith!

At Westminster we treasure God’s people of every age. People of all ages are welcome in worship, and we have study opportunities for every stage of life. We seek to help all people, regardless of age, to faithfully answer God’s call in their lives.

We’re Open Every Sunday

Adult Sunday School at 9 am
Morning Worship at 10:15 am

What can I expect?

The unassuming doors of Westminster lead to worship and praise in a relaxing and positive atmosphere. Your family will be comfortable in our traditional service, and we promise yours won’t be the only children talking during worship. Fellowship abounds for those coming solo or without children, as an eclectic group of worshipers gathers each Sunday.

Should I dress up?

When your pastor preaches barefoot, it’s safe to assume that formal dress isn’t required. Take one look around Westminster and you’ll see that everyone dresses to their own comfort level. No need for a suit and tie, unless that’s your style! God’s grace extends beyond ironed pants and crisp collars; come as you are able.
Do I have to give money?

You are our guest, and we hope that you will enjoy our service while getting to know Westminster and its people. We encourage each of our members to pray about how their gifts (time, energy, skills, as well as financial resources) can best support Christ’s mission. However, you will never be under any obligation to tithe, and absolutely no one is going to judge you.
What will happen?

Our pastor gives a positive, empowering sermon aimed at encouraging those present to follow Christ. Pastor Meg relates the scriptures to everyday life, encouraging us to remember that the sharing of God’s grace – through both our words and our actions – is the task of all of Christ’s disciples. Worship is meaningful and reverent, but neither uptight nor clichéd.

Getting Involved at Westminster

Adult Sunday School
Visit either of our adult Sunday School classes at 9 am every week before worship. The Adult #1 class does weekly scripture study; the Adult #2 class focuses on current issues.
Family Sunday School
On 2nd & 4th Sundays of each month, families gather for an hour after worship. Parents share in group discussion, while the children’s class has a Bible lesson and activities.
Sunday Child Care
We love having children in worship but parents may need a break. Children not yet in kindergarten are welcome to go the nursery (staffed by volunteers).
Food Pantry Collections
Westminster has a long partnership with St. Augustine’s Food Pantry, and each week we collect items most in need. Check the worship bulletin to find out next week’s menu!

Morning Prayer
Take a moment on Tuesdays and Thursdays for silent prayer. This ‘open sanctuary’ time from 9 – 9:30 am offers a mid-week reminder of God’s presence with us.
Chess Group
Join us each Thursday at 6:30 pm in the Blue Classroom to learn and play chess. No experience is required and every skill level is welcome!

What’s Happening at Westminster?

Campfire Church

A Whole New Way of Being ‘Church’
(a less-churchy kind of church)
next gathering: Friday, April 6th
(we gather on the first Friday of every month from 5:30 to 7:30pm
in the field behind Westminster Church, 1419 N 17th Street, Belleville)

Did you ever go to summer camp as a kid? Remember the games and fun, hotdogs and marshmallows on a stick over hot coals, and stories told in a circle of faces lit up with an orange glow?

Campfire Church started with an old idea (summer camp) and created a whole new way of being church.

On the first Friday of every month, we gather at 5:30pm in the field behind Westminster for games and food, followed by stories and songs of faith around the campfire, and finishing at about 7:30pm.

Campfire Church is for every age, because we believe that diversity of ages makes the gathering more vibrant and dynamic.

Campfire Church is a place where differences are valued and where we are encouraged to learn from one another, rather than to allow differences to divide us.

Campfire Church is for those who have never been in church, those who have walked away from traditional church, or those who still love traditional church.

Campfire Church values fun and friendship, but includes quiet and reflection and sacred moments.

Campfire Church is a very different kind of church … and we hope you’ll come and see for yourself!

(BYOLC: bring your own lawn chair!)
